If you’re waiting in Seattle Airport after a canceled flight or just having a layover, you’re out of luck as this airport doesn’t have designated rest areas. Aside from limited spots to rest, the benches with armchairs make it hard to lie down flat but you may appreciate the latest sleep innovation introduced recently called sleep pods.

What Kind of Pods are in Seattle Airport?

Sea-Tac has pods, but it’s important to note that they are not sleep pods. Known as Escape Pods, these are essentially tech-equipped workspaces designed for productivity, not rest.

Escape Pods recently introduced 11 tech-equipped pods in Seattle Airport which are designed to provide workspaces for travellers who want to catch up with work as they wait for their flights. These pods are similar to telephone booths and are not equipped with sleep amenities such as a bed. They come with a desk and chair. If you are comfortable with table napping with your head on the desk, you can use the Escape Pods located in Concourses A, D and S.

  • Simpler Designs: GoSleep offers a different style of sleep pod, which involves a chair that reclines into a flat position for sleeping. These pods are less elaborate but still include features like a sliding visor for privacy, catering to those who need a quick and straightforward place to rest.

Sleep pods are becoming a staple in modern airports globally, recognized for their role in enhancing the travel experience by allowing passengers to rest securely and comfortably between flights. Whether opting for a fully furnished pod from Minute Suites or a more basic setup like GoSleep, travelers can find significant benefits in using these innovative solutions.

In 2006, Nabcab was the first company to introduce airport sleep technology in airports. Today, several different companies offer sleep tech solutions, including Yotel, GoSleep, Metropolitan by COMO, Minute Suites, and Recharge Lounge, among others.

In some US airports such as JFK, Gosleep – another European brand – has started to offer sleeping pods. These are not private rooms, but they are sound-proofed and come with a privacy curtain, so you can at least get some uninterrupted sleep.

Does Seattle Airport have sleep pods?

While Sea-Tac Airport does feature pods, it’s important to clarify that these are not designed for sleeping. Known as Escape Pods, they are essentially tech-equipped workspaces intended for productivity, not rest. Located in Concourses A, D, and S, these pods offer a place for travelers to sit and work, and some travelers use them for short naps by resting their heads on the desks.

Unlike airports such as Heathrow, which provide specially designed nap pods from companies like GoSleep, Sea-Tac’s Escape Pods do not offer the same amenities. They lack beds and do not have enough space for someone to lie flat, making them unsuitable for proper sleep. These are not similar to the sleep pod facilities such as Minute Suites or GoSleep, where one can lie flat to sleep.

Unfortunately, Seattle Airport does not currently offer sleep suites like those provided by Minute Suites or sleep cabins like YotelAir. There is also no immediate information on whether sleep tech from Aerotel, YotelAir, or Minute Suites will be available at Seattle Airport in the near future. We’ll update this post when and if sleep pod operators such as Minute Suites expand to Sea-tac.

It is important to note that Escape Pods does not feature beds and are too small for someone to try to lie flat and get some sleep. They should therefore not be considered as sleep pods but rather work pods.

The cost of Escape Pods at Seattle Airport is $10 for 15 mins, $15 for 30 mins, $25 for 30 mins, $30 for 60 mins, $45 for 90 mins and $60 for 120 mins as shown in the screenshot below.

Unlike Minute Suites operating in other airports such as Atlanta which charges at least $48 per hour, Escape Pods are a bit more expensive and are only available for a maximum period of 2 hours. Terminal B (Gates B14 & B15)

Before you get to TSA checkpints, below are 3 locations fliers identified in the ladside as good sleeping spots:

Additional Considerations to Note for Good Sleep:

  • Temperature Concerns: Many parts of the airport, including Gates C19 and B14, are noted for being particularly chilly, especially late at night and early in the morning. This is exacerbated by the air conditioning settings within the airport. Consider areas deeper within the terminal buildings or spots with less direct airflow from the exterior or cooling systems
